FAQ

How do I register?
Please visit ayso112.org and click on “Login” (for returning players) or “Register Now” (for new players) in the upper right corner of your screen.  New players to La Verne / San Dimas AYSO, you will need to create a new account as well as individual player profiles for each player you are registering and as such must upload proof of the player's age (either a birth certificate, school ID, or another document showing date of birth).

Did my registration go through?
You will receive an email from the Sports Connect system to the email used in registration confirming your registration, check your spam or blocked folders.  Also, you can log back in to your account you should be able to see your payment payment history and the seasons associated with the child registered.

Once registration is closed, you can sign up on the wait list at no cost. As teams are formed, players may be pulled in from the wait list and at that time you will need to pay the registration cost.

How do I add an additional user to my account?
If you add an additional user (spouse, aunt, grandparent, etc) to your account, they will have access to the same team info and will receive all of the system communications that are sent out.  Follow these easy steps.

What are the Age Division Guidelines?
See the Registration Info tab on our website.

Can my child play in a different age group?
NO!  AYSO has predetermined birth years for each age group.  The system creates fair teams and splits players into teams based on their birth dates and skill levels.  Teams will have as even number of players from each birth year as possible.  This has worked for a long time and we do not have a way to do otherwise as AYSO policy is to have each player play in the appropriate division.

But my child is too small to play where he is assigned ...
We understand that this may be the case but we are not able to change the age groups.  We had this issue come up many times in the past and it has not been an issue once we started to practice and play.  The system creates fair teams and splits players into teams based on their birth dates and skill levels.  Teams will have as even number of players from each birth year as possible.  This has worked for a long time and we do not have a way to do otherwise as AYSO policy is to have each player play in the appropriate division.

Volunteer

  • La Verne / San Dimas AYSO is an all-volunteer organization.
  • Without enough volunteers we can not have a season.
  • We are seeking coaches, assistant coaches, referees, team parents and board members to help make the season run smoothly.
  • AYSO provides all training, and no prior soccer background is needed.
  • Sign up to volunteer when processing your player’s registration.
  • THANK YOU for all of you that have already volunteered to help in some capacity.  As a volunteer we are required to ensure that you complete the required classes and certifications.  Most of these are available as on line courses.  To find out what you need to complete please go back into your account and click on the VOLUNTEER tab on the left.  You will see a list of the requirements.  If you have a checkmark next to the requirement you are good to go.  If not you need to complete that requirement.  For RISK STATUS click the checkbox and then RENEW & UPDATE and the system will walk you through the steps and you will also receive an email that has the final instructions and steps.  For SAFESPORT click the checkbox and then RENEW & UPDATE and a popup will appear with the link to this training.  All other requirements need to be completed through AYSOU for which the link is on the top right hand corner just below the FIND VOLUNTEER ROLES button.  Once you complete the requirements the system automatically updates.  For FINGERPRINTING you will receive a separate email with instructions.  (if you are a new volunteer the AYSOU button will be available to you about 24 hours after you signed up to volunteer).

What do you need to provide for your player?
Parents will need to provide shoes appropriate for running on grass (sometimes wet) or cleats (preferred), shin guards, a soccer ball (size 3 for 6U & 8U, size 4 for 10U & 12U, size 5 for 14U and above), and a water bottle.

When and where will my child practice and for how long?
Practices are scheduled Monday through Thursday typically from 5 pm to 8 pm at schools and parks around La Verne and San Dimas.  Practice days and times will be decided by the availability of the coach of the team that your child is assigned to. Duration and number of practices depends on the age group.

6U and 8U practices for 1 hour and 1 time per week.
10U practices for 1 hour and 2 times per week.
12U and 14U practices for 1 1/2 hour and 2 times per week.

Who will coach?
YOU!  Coaching is fun and enriching for both the players and coaches.  Most of the coaching training is on line and takes a few hours.  We have mentors available for first year coaches.  We will do everything we can to help you and your players have fun.  We will have in person coach training on DATES WILL BE POSTED SOON.

What if there are not enough coaches?
If we do not have enough coaches for all registered players than we will form teams based on a first come first served basis and the remainder of the players will be on a wait list until we have more coaches.  If we can not place a player on a team than we will refund the fees that our region collected ($ 135.00).

Can I request a specific coach?
NO!  Because all teams of certain age groups practice at the same field and time, coach requests due to transportation are not critical. However, we do understand that friends often wish to play together.  Coach requests will be considered but are not guaranteed.  The only guaranteed players on a team are the Head and Assistant coaches children.  Coach requests for assistant coaches and other team positions will be considered but are not guaranteed.  We have a responsibility to our "Balanced Teams" philosophy over all else.

Can I request to be on a specific team because ... ?
NO!

Can my child and a friend/neighbor/etc. be on the same team?
We use an automated system to assign players to teams to make them fair and fun and can not guarantee that friends/neighbors/etc. will be on the same team.

When and where will games be played?
Games are on Saturdays.  Rain or shine we play unless the city or school district has closed the fields.  Our games are typically at Horsethief Canyon Park,  Ramona Middle School, Bonita High School, San Dimas High School, Las Flores Park, and Live Oak Park.  Depends on how many teams we have in age group and what facilities we have access to.  We will know more as we near the kick off date.

What is the length of the games?
The length of game is dependent on the age division your child plays in, Here is a good estimate of game durations:
6U   • 20 minutes
8U   • 30 minutes
10U • 50 minutes
12U • 60 minutes
14U • 70 minutes
16U • 80 minutes
19U • 90 minutes

Why can the players not wear jewelry and other items?
Jewelry of any kind (necklaces, watches, earrings, rings, bracelets, etc.) cannot be worn during practice or games.  There is an exception for Med-Alert bracelets, but they must be completely covered with tape or a soft cloth band for the safety of your child and all the other players.  Players may not wear casts or splints which could possibly cause injury to himself/herself or another player. NO EXCEPTIONS. This applies at the games as well as at practices.  Glasses, hearing aids, and med-alerts may be worn to practices and games. The use of an eyeglass holder/strap or sports-glasses is recommended.  Any hair accessories should not be made of metal or plastic, and should not be rigid. Soft hair accessories such as “scrunchies” and soft rubber bands are recommended and acceptable.  Knee braces and other soft support wraps are allowed if the referee deems them to be safe.

Will you have EXTRA teams?
See the AYSO Extra tab our our website.

Can dogs be brought to games or practices?
No! Dogs are not allowed at any AYSO practices or games. If you bring your dogs to an AYSO field, you will be asked to remove the dog and/or leave. We love our pets too, but this is not the place for them. And yes, we understand it is just a little lap dog, but we can't make any exceptions on this one.  The City of La Verne and Bonita Unified School District have signs posted at the parks and schools of no pets.  If you are asked to leave with the dog please do so without arguing.

How are teams formed?
We follow one of AYSO's core principles when forming teams:  Balanced Teams.  This means that teams are formed as balanced as possible based on the following criteria (when available), in order: (1) ratings from coach from prior year, (2) years of soccer experience, (3) birth year (in multi-age), and (4) gender (for co-ed divisions).  We have an automated system that uses all these factors to assign players to teams and it is very difficult to make manual changes.  Because of this we will not take requests to  make changes.

When will I be notified of practices and games?
Once the team is formed, you will receive an automated email from the Sports Connect system to the email used in registration notifying you that your child is placed on a team. Then you will be contacted by the coach. The initial team meeting and practice schedule will be determined by the coach.  The game schedule will be determined by the region and you will be notified thru the Sports Connect system approximately two weeks before the first game.

What do I do if I think a referee is not making the right calls?
The referee is a volunteer who is doing the best job they can, so it's really important that parents, coaches and players treat them with respect. Criticizing our volunteers during a game or on our fields is not permitted.  We urge you to sign up as a referee and we will provide you with all the training.
