ABOUT VIPERS FC

WELCOME TO THE VIPERS FOOTBALL CLUB

What is VIPERS FC?

VIPERS FC is the name of Region 112's EXTRA program. AYSO EXTRA is AYSO's more competitive level of play, which requires try-outs. VIPERS FC teams play soccer year round, and play against opponents throughout Southern California. Teams comprise the most skilled and dedicated players in our region, seeking a more competitive environment, and for families who volunteer and can represent Region 112 positively when traveling to other regions.  The goal of EXTRA is to strengthen AYSO by retaining players and volunteers in additional primary programs operated under the AYSO philosophies.

In the Fall, VIPERS FC teams play against EXTRA teams from other AYSO Sections, in the SCEDSL gaming circuit. After the Fall season, our teams typically play in multiple tournaments or club leagues.

Players interested in playing on a VIPERS FC team must try-out and be invited to join a team. (This is not like our core recreation program where the only requirement is a desire to play.) To maintain the most competitive level of play as possible, we will typically only have one team per age group.

If your player is ready to be challenged by a higher level of play year-round, consider trying out for Long Beach United EXTRA™

About the Extra Program

AYSO EXTRA is a PROGRESSIVE PLAYER PROGRAM
designed to provide a more challenging level of soccer for AYSO players who have the interest, skills and abilities. It enhances that player's experience and individual growth through soccer while retaining the spirit of and organization membership in AYSO. EXTRA is not designed to overshadow or harm the standard primary program - rather the goal is to strengthen AYSO by recruiting and retaining players and volunteers through providing more competitive play the AYSO way - all EXTRA programs embrace the Six Philosophies of AYSO.

The Board of Directors of Region 112 is committed to developing a world-class competitive soccer program that is focused on providing a more challenging environment and enhancing the training and development for our more serious soccer players. All interested players will attend a try-out in the Fall and/or Spring each year, where they will be evaluated by an assessment team.

Players who are chosen to participate, will be notified shortly after the last try-out. Players who are not chosen for one of the EXTRA teams, will be placed on a core team in the Fall season. Unlike the core program Fall season, EXTRA teams will be formed for a one year period competing against other EXTRA teams throughout Area 1.

"The best teacher of the game of soccer is the game itself; guaranteed playing time is what makes AYSO EXTRA™ such a great program for young soccer players."- Tim Ward  (Head Coach, Pepperdine University Women’s Soccer Team)

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY

HOW ARE AYSO EXTRA TEAMS ORGANIZED?

Selection to Extra teams are based on open and fair evaluations. Teams are chosen to create a competitive balance. In addition, AYSO's Core Philosophies are still in place and all of our Extra players will play at least 50% of each game. A fair amount of play time for ALL of our EXTRA players is incredibly important to AYSO and AYSO 112. 11 in both the Fall season as well as tournament play in the Spring and early Summer. program is geared toward the top 10-20% of players in each division.

PARENTS AND PLAYERS

Participation in the EXTRA program requires a higher level of commitment from both parents and players. Unlike the standard recreational program(s) the Region offers, the EXTRA program demands more time and commitment and needs to be the player's primary sports commitment.

Players who participate in the EXTRA program cannot play in another competitive soccer program (i.e. Club). Your attendance at all team functions (practices, games, tournaments, and other events) is not only expected, but it is critical to a successful season. Parents and players are expected to adhere to all rules and regulations, the Philosophies of AYSO, and conduct themselves in an appropriate manner both on and off the pitch and treat others with respect.

FAQS

FAQs for the Extra Program

What is the Season Game Schedule Like for Extra?
The game schedule is very similar to that of the regular Fall season.  Games may start in August and run through December. Most games are on Saturdays but sometimes games may need to be played on Sundays as well.  Extra plays approximately half of their games in other regions around the Inland Empire, Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Diego counties.

Will Extra Team Players Have Fall or Spring Team Conflicts?
No. Extra teams are formed after the Fall or Spring team seasons are over.  Players will never have to choose between the two.

Can an Extra player play on a Fall or Spring Core Team?
No. A player is only allowed to play in one program.  Extra teams require a higher level of commitment that is difficult to maintain if a player is on multiple teams.

How Many Tournaments do Extra Teams Participate In?
There is no limit but most teams play between 4-6 tournaments in Spring and 1-3 tournaments in Fall/Winter.
